The EU–Africa Development Cooperation in the Strengthening Global Partnership

”Develop a global partnership for development”, it is Goal No. 8 on the MDG’s list. The EU as a whole is the world’s largest aid donor and major trading partner. The EU’s Member States have taken a leadership role in peace-keeping and peace-building. The EU is committed to improved practice in complementarity in aid delivery, through its Code of Conduct on Complementarity and Division of Labour. Based on its experience of economic integration, the EU can play a specific role in helping poor countries, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa, to reduce internal barriers to trade, increase regional ownership of reforms through peer-reviewing. The past year has also shown that Europe is not alone in seeking closer relations with Africa, both China and United States are increasingly interested in relations with the continent. The political declaration on Africa’s development needs accepted in New York on the MDG’s High Level Events reaffirmed the new partnership for Africa’s development because of lack of results in poverty reduction currently in Africa. The article emphasizes the globalized world needs a developed Africa, the way is long, but now Africa needs the harmonized global partnership to achieve the MDG’s and poverty reduction.
